TYPE IA, 1864-65
Extremely rare and almost never seen, although Kehr assigned it a meager value of only £15.00 in 1984!! It is described by Kehr as “.. same as TYPE I, but inscribed: AGENCIA DIPLOMATICA S.M. IL RE D'ITALIA CAIRO. The Italian coat of arms is placed in the center and the seal is embossed in color on white paper with no Arabic inscription. The seal size is 34.5 mm. Surrounded by double outer, and single inner frames, both embossed. The Kehr’s Catalog Number is 17C Inscribed: Cairo. Color: dull blue”.
The Type 1A picture to the left is extracted for O.May’s 1915 Catalog of Egyptian Interpostals, in black and white. O. May was the first to identify and photograph this seal, to our knowledge no color photos are available.
TYPE IIIA, 1867
Kehr describes the Type IIIA as follows: “...Same as TYPE III (including types A and B) except that these are printed on azure instead of white paper”.
This type, reportedly printed on Azure (blue) paper, was never recently seen, nor were there any pictures available to post on this site. We presume it, therefore, be very rare indeed or perhaps issued specifically as proof or for collection by the Royal Family. The Type IIIA Kehr Catalog numbers are listed below.
TYPE IIIB, 1867
Note: not to be confused with type IIIb (small b not B) which is one of the Alexandria type seal. Go to the main menu for type IIIb.
This type is also extremely rare and (according to Kehr) most probably appeared on proof sheets only. Kehr describes it “.. Same as TYPE III, (including types A and B) except that these are printed on rose instead of white paper. Until the Fouad I Collection was sold, none of these was known, and except for the ones that are listed herewith, no others have ever been reported to or seen by the writer.”
