KEHR TYPE I INTERPOSTALS - ISSUED 1864
Type I are the oldest Interpostal Seals. Issued in 1864, two years before the first Egyptian postal stamp. The Kehr Catalogue recorded a total of 40 Type I seals, tabulated below. They are inscribed in Italian with, AMMINISTRAZIONE DELLA POSTA EUROPEA IN EGITTO, arranged in a circle surrounded by a thick and thin, round frame line measuring 38 mm in diameter. Within the circle, arranged in three straight lines are "UFFIZZIO DI and the name of the City” Which, in Italian means, official of “city name”. The impression is in black on tinted paper. According to the 1914 O. May catalog, no copies of Type I seals were ever found with a postmark. Kehr, however recorded one example handstamped "Franca".
