Type III – The Interpostal Seals Of Egypt: 1864-1892

In his catalog Kehr described type III as follows:

Inscribed, “POSTE VICE REALI EGIZIANE” in arch across top of circular panel, surrounded by a thick, thin and thick line around the outer frame, and a single thiAk line around the inner frame. The town name is in an arch at the bottom of the same circular panel. In the centre, arranged in three lines, is the Turkish Arabic, POST, MSRY , MYRY. Coloured impression on white paper. 381 mm in diameter. We have no record, but evidence suggests that these were lithographed by V. Penassan, of Alexandria, since the paper and type differ from the previous issues, and this firm got the contract for the contemporary postage stamps of this year.

Extensive study indicates that these were printed from stones containing six subjects.

There are two distinct types of each Interpostal of this series :
Die A: Tiny tail of the lower stroke of the P of POSTE. Bottom bar of second E in EGIZIANE is broken. Bottom of second Y in MYRY is wavy.
Die B: No tail on P. Bottom of bar of E is perfect. Y is slightly curved, but not wavy.
