Type VII-a Interpostal Seals 1879-80
Type VII-a seals are rarer and more sought after by interpostal seal collectors than either types VII, VIII or VIII-a, this type differs from type VII in that the town names are inscribed in both Latin and Arabic letters on the circular frame of seal.
the word ‘Masrieh’ is inscribed in the center in Arabic letters below ‘POST KHEDIVIE’ in Arabic. ‘Masrieh’ is the Arabic word for ‘Egyptian’. Therefore these seals are inscribed in Arabic “Khedival Egyptian Post” Pronounced “..Bosta Khediwya Masrieh”. However, in French (Above center), the Inscription is “Poste Egyptiennes”, or Egyptian Post without any mention of the Khedival authority!!
Type VII-a seals supplemented type Vii Issues for a small number of mainly Sudanese and foreign offices.
